HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — John Travolta and Kelly Preston have established a memorial fund to honor their late son, Jett Travolta, the family announced on their Web site.
According to the statement posted online, the Jett Travolta Foundation will seek to "assist and provide relief to children with vision, hearing, mobility, communication, behavorial learning impairments or other special medical, environmental, health or educational needs."
"It may also use its resources, and make grants to educate the public about the need for a clean environment, provide relief and assistance to children who are victims to natural or man-made disasters, and to fund children's educational programs."
Jett Travolta, 16, died tragically from a seizure disorder on Jan. 2 while the family was vacationing in the Bahamas.
Shortly after his death, the Travolta's issued a statement thanking the public for their support.
"We would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks to everyone who has sent their love and condolences," read the statement. "Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered. We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time we had with him for the rest of our lives."
"We have received many messages of condolence from around the world and we want to thank everyone for their prayers and support. It has meant so much to us. It is a beautiful reminder of the inherent goodness in the human spirit that gives us hope for a brighter future," the statement ended.
