Report: Charlie Sheen Leaving 'Two and a Half Men'

By Rich King on April 1, 2010

LOS ANGELES — Two and a Half Men may be in need of a name change.

Charlie Sheen is planning to leave the hit CBS sitcom after seven seasons, sources tell People magazine.

"Charlie's just done," said one insider. "And he's quietly telling his friends he's not coming back."

The 44-year-old actor is the highest-paid sitcom star on television. His contract with the series ends after the current season, which wraps shooting on April 9. Sheen has reportedly already turned down an offer to return.

"He wants to move on," a friend of Sheen's told the mag. "Leaving is 100 percent his idea."

CBS wouldn't comment on the report since it involves contract negotiations, but Sheen's rep confirmed that the Emmy-nominated star's contract is about to end.

It has been a rollercoaster season for Sheen, who briefly left the series in February to enter rehab for "a preventative measure." The rehab stint came on the heels of Sheen's Christmas Day arrest in which he allegedly held a knife to his wife's throat during a holiday getaway.

Earlier this month, Sheen pleaded not guilty to the domestic violence charges stemming from the incident. His trial is scheduled to begin on July 21. If convicted, he could serve one to three years in prison.
