NEW YORK — While she may not be ready for open comedy night, Anna Wintour did show off her softer side when she appeared Monday on the "Late Show with David Letterman."
The 59-year-old iconic editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine was quick to offer Letterman some of her fashion expertise, suggesting that the host look up Brooks Brothers designer Thom Browne.
"Let me get that number," quipped Letterman in return.
Wintour, who was on hand to promote the R.J. Cutler documentary "The September Issue," also addressed her vicious reputation as played out in the film "The Devil Wears Prada."
"I'm an ice queen, I'm the Sun King, I'm an alien fleeing from 'District 9' and I'm a dominatrix," she said of her recent findings in the New York Times. "So I reckon that makes me a lukewarm royalty with a whip from outer space. What do you think?"
When pressed about her hard-nosed reputation, Wintour said, "I'm very decisive, and I try to give clear direction to the people that I am working with, and sometimes, unfortunately, they don't hear the answer that they would like to hear."
