HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — While Alec Baldwin may have his sights set on a political career, don't expect to see Brad Pitt in the running.
During an interview with Ann Curry on Thursday's "Today Show," the 45-year-old actor laughed off the grassroots "Brad Pitt for Mayor" campaign that was launched in honor of the star's dedication to rebuilding the city of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.
"If chosen, would you run?" asked Curry.
"Yeah," said Pitt.
"Would you serve?" inquired the host.
"Yeah. I'm running on the gay marriage, no religion, legalization and taxation of marijuana platform," joked Pitt, who then added, "I don't have a chance."
The Brad Pitt for Mayor movement was initiated by Tulane art history professor Thomas Bayer, who jokingly made a list of reasons to elect the Hollywood star, including: "If we elect Brad Pitt mayor, Angelina Jolie would be the First Lady of New Orleans."
Pitt has a high profile in the Big Easy thanks to his Make It Right Foundation, which has been central in rebuilding the city's Lower 9th Ward following the devastating natural disaster in 2005.
