HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — He may be considered one of the greatest actors in Hollywood, but some roles are easier than others for Brad Pitt.
One such acting gig was his turn in the classic 1993 film "True Romance," in which life imitated art says Pitt, who drew from his own past experience as a pothead. Appearing on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher," Pitt opened up about his days as a pot smoker and why he quit.
"I certainly had my day," Pitt told Maher, who called it "one of the best stoner performances" in history, along with Sean Penn as Jeff Spicoli in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High."
During the pot chatter, Maher recalled seeing Pitt years ago rolling "the most perfect" joint he had ever seen at a New Year's Eve party.
"It was better than a cigarette," Maher recollected with admiration.
"I'm an artist," quipped Pitt in return.
When asked why he gave up smoking, Pitt said it has everything to do with being a father to six kids with Angelina Jolie.
"I'm a dad now," he said. "You want to be alert."
