HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Jon Stewart took on Betsy McCaughey on his "Daily Show" Thursday night, a heated discussion with apparently no love lost between the two.
McCaughey, a former lieutenant governor of New York, has been leading the charge against President Obama's health reform bill. She has argued that presidential adviser Ezekial Emanuel is a "deadly doctor," while claiming that the House bill will make it "mandatory" for Medicare patients to be counseled every five years on "how to end their life sooner." The belief has since been referred to as "death panels."
McCaughey previously challenged President Clinton's health reform attempt in the 1990s.
On Friday, McCaughey stepped down from her position as a director of Cantel Medical Corp., which bills itself as a "leading provider of infection prevention and control products in the healthcare market."
