WASHINGTON, D.C — It remains unclear whether Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton were playing around or serious when guns were allegedly drawn in the Washington Wizards' locker room just days before Christmas. There have been reports that a $25,000 gambling debt triggered the clash, which would make sense as far as TNT analyst Kenny Smith is concerned.
"A lot of people think that because you're in the NBA, all of a sudden people become immune to societal problems," Smith said during an interview Monday on CBS' The Early Show. "Societal problems are not going to stop at the Washington Wizards arena."
The incident is being investigated by local and federal authorities. Arenas has denied that the altercation was over a gambling debt, however the all-star guard did say he used poor judgment in having three firearms in his locker.
"I don't think Gilbert Arenas is a menacing person at all," Smith said. "I've known him, I've met him, but I think this is just a sign of immaturity."
