NEW YORK — Madonna hitched a ride for her appearance on Wednesday's "Late Show with David Letterman," arriving in her guest chair thanks to a lift from the New York Rangers hockey team.
"Have you ever ridden hockey players before?" quipped the host.
"The hockey sticks were pinching me," replied the 51-year-old pop star, who was making her eighth visit to the CBS show.
"Do you want to do it again?" joked Letterman in return.
The topic of Madonna's divorce from Guy Ritchie was then brought up, with the singer explaining that the eight-year marriage was "the Bush years... a good time to be out of America."
When asked by the host if she'd ever tie the knot again, Madonna replied: "I think I'd rather get run over by a train."
Letterman then inquired about Madonna's one-time flame Alex Rodriguez, which drew a sharp response from the "Material Girl."
"Didn't you almost get arrested for bringing up A-Rod's name?" she quipped, in reference to Letterman's controversial crack in June when he joked that the Yankees slugger had knocked up the 14-year-old daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
