HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — New questions have been raised in the death of former NFL quarterback Steve McNair.
A CBS News investigation is casting doubt on the presumption that McNair's girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, killed him in a murder-suicide. In the weeks prior to the killing, Kazemi exchanged more than 200 calls and text messages with Adrian Gilliam, the man who admitted to selling a gun to her, according to cell phone records obtained by the network. The records also showed the pair exchanged 49 texts and calls on July 3, the day before McNair and Kazemi were found dead.
"These communications are obviously more than someone in a casual relationship," Dennis Farrell, a former commander of a New York homicide squad, told CBS News.
Gilliam, who is still awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to gun charges in the case, also spoke with Kazemi just two hours before police believe she and McNair died.
Private investigator Wayne Black says he is shocked that Nashville police took Gilliam's word for anything.
"He's not only convicted felon," says Black, "he's a big liar. ... So, why did he lie?"
