LOS ANGELES — Usher took the stage at Tuesday's public memorial for Michael Jackson at the Staples Center, where he paid tribute to his childhood idol.
In an emotional performance, the R&B star covered "Gone Too Soon" off Jackson's 1991 album "Dangerous." The song had special meaning to the King of Pop as it was dedicated to the memory of Ryan White, a young AIDS patient befriended by Jackson who died at the age of 18.
At one point during his performance, Usher touched Jackson's casket lying in front of the stage.
Fighting back tears, Usher struggled to complete the song as he was surrounded by members of Jackson's family.
