LOS ANGELES — In case there was any doubt, Christina Aguilera is definitely not your average soccer mom.
The 29-year-old pop star proves that and more in her new "Not Myself Tonight" music video, which debuted on Vevo at midnight.
Aguilera's is back to pushing the envelope a la her pre-baby days on hits like "Dirrty." In the new video, she prances around in black leather undies, a chainmail bikini top and a bedazzled outfit that leaves little to the imagination. In addition to her early work, the video has drawn comparisons to Madonna and Lady Gaga. In fact, it was helmed by Hype Williams, who also directed Lady Gaga and Beyoncé in "Video Phone" last year.
So what about those rumors that there's a feud brewing between Aguilera and Gaga?
"It just comes with the territory," Aguilera recently said of the Internet chatter. "That in particular, is not even worth wasting the breath to comment on. ... I've been around for over a decade and I think my work speaks for myself."
"Not Myself Tonight" is the first track off Aguilera's forthcoming album Bionic, which drops on June 8. Her fourth studio release features collaborations with such artists as Sia, Tricky Stewart, Le Tigre, Hill & Switch and Ladytron. There's also a ballad produced and written by Linda Perry titled "Lift Me Up."
"Working on this album with so many talented artists and producers that I admire was really an amazing experience," said Aguilera. "The artists I chose to work with added so many unique sonic layers to Bionic. My intention was to step into their world and what they do combined with my own vision and sound. The results were magic."
Aguilera recorded the album after the birth of her now 2-year-old son, Max. She described her new material as a unique mix of genres and styles.
"I was able to explore and create a fresh, sexy feel using both electronic and organic elements with subject matter ranging from playful to introspective," she explained. "I am so excited for my fans to hear the new sound. It is something I don't think anyone will expect."
Aguilera will make her big screen debut later this year in the musical Burlesque, a film co-starring Cher, Stanley Tucci and Kristen Bell.
