HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kanye West is firing back after being blasted for starting his recent Bonnaroo Music Festival show two hours late.
The hip-hop star blamed both festival organizers and Pearl Jam, which took the stage prior to him, for starting his performance at 4:25 a.m. on June 15.
"Bonnaroo should have released a statement in my defense but since they haven't, let's break down the walls on this 'Truman Show' and let you know what really occurred!!!" the 31-year-old West wrote on his official Web site.
West was scheduled to take the stage around 2:30 a.m. at the Tennessee festival, but Pearl Jam extended their show by an extra hour. The added hour by the Seattle-formed rockers forced the stage crew into panic mode, as West's elaborate set-up requires extra time to assemble.
"I understand if people don't like me because I like me or if people think tight clothes look gay or people say I run my mouth to much, but this Bonnaroo thing is the worst insult I've ever had in my life," he said. "This is the most offended I've ever been ... this is the maddest I ever will be."
The long wait left fans less than thrilled. Many of those who remained tossed beer cans and glow sticks onto the stage as they hurled obscenities towards the Grammy-winning singer.
"I'm sorry to everyone that I didn't have the ability to give the performance I wanted to. "I'm sorry," West said. "Call me what you want, but never say I didn't give my all!"
