HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The Hollywood-area home of actress Charlize Theron was burglarized, police announced on Monday. Officers were investigating the burglary that happened at some point between Thursday and Saturday.
Authorities did not know what had been taken, and police offifer Sara Faden couldn't immediately say who reported the incident or when authorities were first notified.
Theron, 32, won an Academy Award in 2004 for her portrayal of a serial killer in "Monster" and earned another Oscar nod for "North Country" in 2006.
Some of Los Angeles' most famous residents have been targeted by professional burglars this year, with police revealing in July that more than seven million dollars of loot had been stolen in a string of raids.
Police and city authorities said the same gang of thieves is believed to be responsible for as many as 50 robberies carried out in the upscale neighborhoods such as Bel Air and Beverly Hills.
Celebrities whose homes have reportedly been raided include country music stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, as well as former Paramount Pictures chief Sherry Lansing and her Oscar-winning director husband Billy Friedkin.
Other victims included Duran Duran guitarist John Taylor and Los Angeles Clippers basketball player Cuttino Mobley, who had around $500,000 in cash and jewelry stolen from his Bel Air mansion.
