TOYKO — With a new baby on the way, actress Nicole Kidman says she's already thinking about her future on screen and how it might change.
"I think once you have children, you want to balance the work you do," the 40-year-old star told reporters Wednesday as she was promoting her fantasy film "The Golden Compass" in Tokyo, Reuters reports. "Occasionally you want to make films that they can take their friends to, [that] they can go to the premiere of, that they celebrate."
Early last month, Kidman confirmed that she was expecting her first biological child with husband Keith Urban after much speculation in the tabloids. She also has two adopted children, daughter Isabella and son Connor, from her nearly 10-year marriage to ex-husband Tom Cruise. She says Isabella and Connor both enjoyed watching mom's latest film.
"My Bella and Connor are 13 and 15, so they have seen the film," she said. "And they loved it."
While she says, "My child inside won't see the film for a long time," Kidman says she hopes to continue choosing more child-friendly scripts in the future. Those scripts will have to wait, though, because the actress has put her career temporarily on hold. She withdrew from the post-World War Two drama "The Reader" due to her pregnancy.
While she has visited Toyko on many occasions in the past, Kidman added that this trip may be her most enjoyable.
"This is the first time I have been to Tokyo pregnant," she said. "I am very glad to be here this way."
