HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — "Dog the Bounty Hunter" has been released from the dog pound.
Cable network A&E is bringing back the popular series, which was pulled from the airwaves last November when the show's star, Duane "Dog" Chapman, was caught up in a controversy following his use of a racial slur.
Last year, Chapman was heard utilizing an offensive term to describe his son Tucker's black girlfriend in a private phone call, which surfaced on the Internet. Chapman later apologized repeatedly on television and to the African American community, promising to make amends for his error in judgement.
"Over the last few months, Duane "Dog" Chapman has taken and continues to take the appropriate steps in reaching out to several African American organizations in an effort to make amends for his private comments to his son which were released publicly," said a statement from the network.
While A&E has decided to begin production on the show again, a timetable for its return to the airwaves is still unknown.
