LOS ANGELES — Jon and Kate Gosselin have put an end to months of speculation by announcing their plans to divorce.
The reality TV couple, who have been the subject of breakup rumors for months, revealed that they filed for divorce on Monday. They announced the decision Monday on their popular TLC series, "Jon & Kate Plus 8," which features the raising of their sextuplets and twins.
"Kate and I have decided to separate," said Jon. "It's just not good for us to be arguing in front of our kids."
"My goal is peace," Kate said of the split. "If peace needs to be brought about by this, then I'm in agreement."
The Gosselins, who recently celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary, have been in the middle of a media firestorm ever since April, when Jon was reported to be having an affair. There have also been claims that Kate has been having an affair with her bodyguard, Steve Neild.
While many have feared that a split could lead to an end to the popular show, now in its fifth season, the Gosselins said they plan to continue with the series by filming their segments separately.
