Brad Pitt Slams Tom Cruise in 'Valkyrie'

By Erica Bowen on August 21, 2009

Brad Pitt, pictures, picture, photos, photo, pics, pic, images, image, hot, sexy, latest, newHOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Tom Cruise generated a lot of hype for his turn in the 2008 film "Valkyrie," but that apparently did little to impress Brad Pitt.

In an interview with German magazine Stern to promote his new film, Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds," Pitt slams Cruise's own attempt at a Hitler assassination film.

"It was a ridiculous movie," said Pitt, whose version of World War II opens Friday in theaters.

Shortly after the comment began hitting the tabloids, Pitt's rep tried to downplay any friction between the two Hollywood heavyweights.

"Brad has never seen 'Valkyrie' so this is NOT accurate," the rep said of the published comment.

Whatever the case, Pitt said he believes Tarantino has set an extremely high bar for the historic period.

"The second World War could still deliver more stories and films, but I believe that Quentin put a cover on that pot," he tells the mag. "With 'Basterds,' everything than can be said to this genre has been said. The film destroys every symbol. The work is done, end of story."

While Pitt may not be a fan of Cruise in "Valkyrie," he does point out that he fell in love with John Travolta at an early age.

"When I was a teenager, I saw 'Saturday Night Fever' at our drive-in, but it wasn't the dancing that electrified me. It was the life and culture in Brooklyn," he explained. "I'm from Missouri, the southern part of the Midwest in the U.S., and I never heard families talk that way to each other. From that point on, I wanted out to see more of the country and of life."
