HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Susan Boyle made her long-awaited American musical debut on Wednesday, performing "Wild Horses" on the season finale of "America's Got Talent."
The unemployed 48-year-old Scottish singer first splashed onto the scene when she appeared on the U.K. version of the show in April. After taking the stage to snickers, Boyle's rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" from the musical "Les Miserables" wowed both the audience and judges, including the often cynical Simon Cowell. A video of her performance quickly went viral and turned Boyle into an overnight sensation.
Boyle who went on to finish as the show's runner-up, told viewers during her appearance that she's adjusting to fame better now.
"I used to be a spectator looking out at the world, but now I'm part of that world," she said. "I embrace it, because I feel a bit more confident in myself now. I'm ready to get on with it now and not afraid to be myself."
Boyle's taped appearance nearly overshadowed that of chicken catcher Kevin Skinner, who emerged as the winner in the fourth season of "AGT."
