HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - While the Hollywood writers' strike continues to extend, the Writers Guild of America still has some awards to hand out for 2007 achievements.
The WGA announced announced its nominations on Thursday, with nods for best original screenplay going to stripper-turned-scribe Diablo Cody for "Juno," Tony Gilroy for "Michael Clayton," Tamara Jenkins for "The Savages," Judd Apatow for "Knocked Up," and Nancy Oliver for "Lars and the Real Girl."
WGA's nominees for best adapted screenplay went to Ethan and Joel Coen for "No Country for Old Men," Paul Thomas Anderson for "There Will Be Blood," Ronald Harwood for "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly," Sean Penn for "Into the Wild," and James Vanderbilt for "Zodiac."
In television, writers for "Dexter," "Friday Night Lights," "Mad Men," "The Sopranos," and "The Wire" were nominated in the drama category.
For comedy, nominations went to writers for "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Flight of the Conchords," "Entourage," "The Office," and "30 Rock."
The Los Angeles-based West division of the WGA said it will not host an awards show until the strike is over. The New York-based East division of the guild has yet to decide whether it will have a ceremony.
The WGA winners will be announced Feb. 9.
