HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — LeRoi Moore, one of the founding members of the Dave Matthews Band, died Tuesday at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 46.
Moore, the band's longtime saxophonist, passed away as a result of injuries he suffered on June 30 in an all-terrain-vehicle accident on his farm outside Charlottesville, Va. The North Carolina native suffered several broken ribs and a punctured lung in the accident, in which he was first hospitalized for several days.
The musician had recently returned to his home in Los Angeles to begin physical rehabilitation, but complications prompted another hospital return.
Moore attended college at James Madison University, where he studied tenor saxophone and later went on to become an accomplished jazz musician.
The Dave Matthews Band was formed in 1991.
