ATLANTA — Comedian Katt Williams was arrested on charges of burglary and criminal trespassing Sunday night in Georgia.
An unidentified homeowner in Newnan called police around 9 p.m. to report that Williams had broken into their home and stolen several items, including jewelry, Coweta County Sheriff's Office Major James Yarbrough told the Associated Press.
The 38-year-old Williams, whose real name is Micah S. Katt Williams, remained in jail on Monday, with his arraignment scheduled for this afternoon.
This isn't the first time the entertainer has run into trouble with the law. He was briefly jailed last November when three guns were discovered in his vehicle during a routine traffic stop in New York. Prosecutors later dropped their case against him.
Williams also received a three-year probation sentence in 2006 after he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed firearm.
Williams is the son of a former member of the Black Panther Party. As a child, he rejected a scholarship to The National Science Academy, choosing instead to follow his idols like Richard Pryor and become a comedian.
He made headlines early last year when began tossing $100 bills out to his audience during a performance at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood. The club's owner, Jamie Masada, later said that had Williams shelled out roughly $29,000 to his followers. At the show, the star told the crowd that he hadn't forgotten his roots and wanted to say thank you with a briefcase full of cash.
