HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Precious and The Last Station each scored five nods apiece to lead the field of nominees for the 25th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards, organizers announced Tuesday.
Both pictures are up for best feature film, where they'll compete in a category that also includes (500) Days of Summer, Amreeka and Sin Nombre.
Newcomer Gabourey Sidibe, who plays an abused young woman in Precious, received a nod for best actress. She will compete in a field that includes Helen Mirren (The Last Station), Gwyneth Paltrow (Two Lovers), Maria Bello (Downloading Nancy) and Nisreen Faour (Amreeka).
The nominees in the best actor category are Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart), Colin Firth (A Single Man), Adam Scott (The Vicious Kind), Souleymane Sy Savane (Goodbye Solo) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt for (500) Days of Summer.
Other notable nominations included a best supporting female nod for Mo'Nique, who portrays an abusive mother in Precious.
The Spirit Awards will air live on the Independent Film Channel on March 5.
