HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will rock the 2009 Super Bowl halftime show, the NFL announced on Sunday.
The rockers follow a string of legendary artists who have performed at America's biggest sporting event in recent years, including the Rolling Stones, U2, Paul McCartney, Prince and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, who took the stage at last year's Super Bowl.
Springsteen released his first album, "Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.," in 1973. He then settled on his back-up band the following year, which included saxophone player Clarence Clemons, guitarist Steven Van Zandt, organist Danny Federici, pianist Roy Bittan, bassist Garry Tallent and drummer Max Weinberg. Soon, the New Jersey native was rocketing to fame behind the title song of his third release in 1975, "Born to Run."
This year's Super Bowl will be played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. on Feb. 1
