HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — When it rains it pours. At least that's how Nicolas Cage must be feeling.
The Oscar-winning star is being sued for $13 million by his ex-girlfriend, Christina Fulton, who alleges Cage left her in financial ruin, TMZ reports.
The 42-year-old Fulton, who is the mother of Cage's eldest child Weston, 18, filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. She claims that Cage bought a Los Angeles house for her in 2001 and promised to turn the title over to her in exchange for raising their son. However, when she went to sell the home earlier this year, she realized Cage had never transferred ownership. Making matters worse, she alleges that he served her with a 60-day notice to vacate the property in September.
Fulton, a former actress who appeared with Cage in the 2005 film Lord of War, is also suing her ex's former business manager, Samuel J. Levin. She contends that because of both of their negligence, she now owes the IRS more than $1 million, in addition to $250,000 in unpaid credit card debt.
Levin is the same man that Cage claims led him into financial ruin. In October, Cage filed a $20 million lawsuit against his former business manager, claiming the man's advice led him down a path of destruction. Levin has since filed a countersuit in which he contends that he warned Cage about the pitfalls of his lavish lifestyle.
In July, the U.S. government placed a tax lien on Cage's vast real estate holdings because of $6 million in unpaid back taxes dating from 2007, the same year he starred in the blockbuster films Ghost Rider and National Treasure: Book of Secrets. He has since engaged in a massive sell-off of homes, cars, yachts and other possessions to help offset his financial troubles.
When reached by TMZ, Cage's attorney, Marty Singer, said Fulton's allegations are without merit.
"The lawsuit is an absurd claim," said the lawyer. "All of these claims are long-time barred by the statute of limitations and are baseless."
