MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Former NFL star Warren Sapp was arrested Saturday following an alleged domestic violence incident in Miami Beach.
Sapp, 37, was charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend of two years around 5 a.m. at the Shore Club Hotel.
He was released from jail Sunday around 11 a.m. on $1,500 bond.
According to a police report obtained by TMZ, the couple got into an argument over some of the men Sapp's girlfriend was hanging out with earlier in the night. She told police that the former defensive tackle "grabbed her and began to choke her" before eventually throwing her out of the hotel room they were staying in.
The arrest report said the victim had "a swollen right knee and bruises on the back of her neck."
Sapp was in town to cover Sunday's Super Bowl XLIV between the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints. The NFL Network analyst has since been pulled from his on-air duties pending a review of his arrest.
The University of Miami star played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders during his 13-year NFL career. He also came in second place as a contestant on the seventh season of ABC's Dancing with the Stars.
