RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil — Paris Hilton apparently has too much sex appeal for the Brazilian government.
The country's Secretariat for Women's Affairs claims a Devassa beer commercial starring the 29-year-old heiress is demeaning to women and should be pulled from the air. The controversial spot features Hilton rubbing a can of beer on her body, much to the delight of the curious onlookers staring into her high-rise building.
"It's an ad that devalues women — in particular, blond women," a spokeswoman for the Women's Secretariat explained Thursday to the Associated Press.
Hilton is wearing a short black dress in the ad, but the bigger issue is the location. It's likely nobody would be complaining had she been on a beach in a bikini like many of the country's other beer commercials.
"The problem with the ad isn't a lack of clothing, but its sensual nature," explained Eduardo Correia, a spokesperson for regulation company Conar. "A woman in a bikini on a beach isn't necessarily sensual; it depends on the context."
Hilton was in Brazil last week during Carnival to help kick off the ad campaign's debut.
