HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas are opening up about their relationship, less than two weeks after officially confirming they are now an item.
"We've been best friends for the longest time, and now we're taking the next step and it's been really fun," Jonas told Ryan Seacrest on his Thursday KISS-FM radio show. "We've always figured that one day it would happen but we didn't feel like it was the right time."
Jonas, 20, and Lovato, 17, have been denying dating rumors ever since they co-starred together in the 2008 Disney Channel movie Camp Rock. Apparently, it was only a matter of time before things escalated.
"Being best friends for a while, over time feelings grow, and for me, as much as I wanted to deny it, the feelings were always there," Lovato told Seacrest.
On Wednesday night, the two brought their romance to the American Idol stage as they performed their new duet, "Make a Wave." After the show, both stars took to Twitter to thank their loyal fans.
"Thanks to everyone who watched American Idol last night! [Demi] and I had a great time," wrote Jonas.
Added Lovato: "What an incredible day... Thanks to everyone who tuned in."
