LOS ANGELES — Amanda Bynes is headed for a career change.
The young star took to Twitter on Saturday to announce that she has retired from acting at the tender age of 24.
"Being an actress isn't as fun as it may seem," wrote Bynes. "If I don't love something anymore, I stop doing it. I don't love acting anymore, so I've stopped doing it."
"I know 24 is a young age to retire but you heard it here first I've #retired," she added.
Bynes made her acting debut at the age of 13 on Nickelodeon's All That. That was followed by her own variety show, The Amanda Show, which ran for three seasons (1999-2002) on Nickelodeon.
In 2002, she began co-starring with Jennie Garth on the WB series What I Like About You, which aired for four seasons.
Bynes then transitioned into a movie career, starring in such films as She's the Man and What a Girl Wants. Her last film role was Hairspray in 2007.
"I've never written the movies & tv shows I've been apart of," she said. "I've only acted like the characters the producers or directors wanted me to play."
Bynes made a splash earlier this year when she stripped down to her bra for Maxim's February cover. The Southern California native said the steamy photos afforded her the chance to shed her wholesome image and "show people who I am."
"My parents were like, 'Does this mean you're gonna do sexy movies now?' " said Bynes, who next stars alongside Emma Stone, Alyson Michalka and Cam Gigandet in the film Easy A. "I said, 'Well, if they're done the right way, then maybe!'
"I mean, I'm not gonna do porn, but if it's a Leonardo DiCaprio movie or whatever...Point is, it's time for me to start making my own decisions."
