HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Tony Parker is setting the record straight after wife Eva Longoria filed for divorce this week after three years of marriage.
"Eva and I have been discussing our situation privately," the NBA star said in a statement Thursday. "I was aware that she would be filing for divorce in Los Angeles."
Parker, 28, also shot down reports that he filed for divorce first.
"I did not file for divorce in Texas and did not hire divorce attorneys in either Texas or California," he said. "We plan to continue to keep our discussions of this matter private."
Extra confirmed that the marriage fell apart when Longoria found hundreds of text messages on her husband's cell phone from another woman, who is said to be Erin Barry, the wife of Parker's former San Antonio Spurs teammate Brent Barry.
The Barrys are in the middle of a divorce, which will likely get nastier now, according to Brent's father, NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry.
"I feel horrible for my son," the former Golden State Warriors star told TMZ. "I'm in shock. I knew [Erin] was moving out of the house soon and SHE was the one that filed for divorce. This is the straw that broke the camel's back."
He added, "[Brent] is going to be devastated. I can't even imagine him going through this ... the divorce was hard enough news."
Parker played alongside Brent Barry for three seasons, beginning in 2004. The pair won a pair of NBA titles as teammates in 2005 and 2007.
