HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — It's been a long time coming, but Dave Coulier is finally offering some insight on his ex-girlfriend's break-out single.
As everyone "knows" by now, the 48-year-old Coulier previously dated singer Alanis Morissette. The former couple's relationship peaked the public's interest once it was discovered that the mystery man behind her anger-driven song, "You Oughta Know," was the former "Full House" star himself. Coulier said he was speeding down the highway when he first heard the single.
"I said, 'Wow, this girl is angry.' And then I said, 'Oh man, I think it's Alanis,' " he recalls in an interview with the Calgary Herald. "I listened to the song over and over again, and I said, 'I think I have really hurt this person.' "
Once word spread, Coulier says the press started to hound him to comment on the song's meaning. He says he eventually tracked down Morissette by phone.
"I said, 'Hi. Uh, what do you want me to say?' And she said, 'You can say whatever you want,' " he recollects of the exchange.
Soon thereafter, Coulier says, the pair got together and seemed to put the past behind them.
"We saw each other and hung out for an entire day. And it was beautiful," the actor says. "It was one of those things where it was kind of like, 'We're good.' "
