HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — With her life seemingly back in order, Britney Spears says she is producing the best music of her career.
"I'm writing every day, right here at the piano," the 26-year-old pop star tells OK! magazine of her new album, which is expected to be released within six to nine months. "This is my best work ever."
Spears, whose last release, "Blackout," debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in November, says her new material has a more "urban" feel than her previous five studio albums.
The fact that she's in the studio recording again is remarkable in itself, considering how the year started. In January, Spears was in-and-out of the hospital and displaying her most erratic behavior yet as she battled her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, over custody over their two young sons, Sean Preston, 2 ½, and Jayden James, 22 months.
Oddly enough, things turned around when her father Jamie, whom she wasn't speaking to at the time, re-entered her life and started to manage her affairs.
"God has a way of taking something bad and turning it into something good," he tells OK! of the reconciliation. "If this hadn't happened, I would never have been able to get back with my daughter and have this relationship I have with these two little boys."
Speaking of young children, Spears admits to being shocked at her 17-year-old sister Jamie Lynn's pregnancy. Spears was at the hospital when the "Zoey 101" star gave birth to a baby girl, Maddie Briann, in June.
"That was special, but it was also strange because she's always been the baby, and now the baby was having a baby," the "Gimme More" singer explains. "It was mind-boggling. I was shocked a little bit."
As for what else is on the horizon, Spears tells the magazine she hopes to pursue more acting opportunities, following her well-received appearances earlier this year on CBS' "How I Met Your Mother."
"I'd love to, if I can find the right movie," she says. "Actually, I have a part that just came up. We're just trying to work it out with my schedule, with the children."
Having witnessed firsthand the difficulties of fame at a young age, Spears says she hopes her children choose a different career path than her own.
"But I'd love them unconditionally if they wanted to," she says. "I'd just as soon they have a more normal childhood."
