RINCON, Puerto Rico — Shania Twain is a new bride!
Just weeks after announcing her engagement, the country star married Frédéric Thiébaud on New Year's Day in an intimate wedding ceremony held in Rincon, Puerto Rico, her rep tells People.
The couple's romance is a unique one — they started dating after their former spouses allegedly had an affair. Twain split with her ex, producer Robert "Mutt" Lange, in May 2008 after he reportedly hooked up with her one-time best friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud.
In an open letter announcing her engagement, Twain admitted the newlyweds grew close after sharing such a painful experience together.
"In the last two and a half years of adjusting to life after separation and divorce, I needed to lean on others more often than I was accustomed to," she said last month on her official Web site. "These people have been gifts, and I am fortunate to have so many of these beautiful people - friends, family and beloved fans, [whose] support I cherish more deeply with each day that passes. Now another year is about to pass, and I would like to thank everyone who helped me believe that new beginnings are possible and that love can be trusted."
She added, "Talking about love, I am excited to share some personal news with you; I'm in love! Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship."
Twain has a son, Eja, with Lange, while Frédéric and his ex have a daughter, Johanna.
