HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Will Ferrell will be paying an old friend a visit at The Office.
The 43-year-old star has signed on for a multi-episode arc on the hit comedy series starring Steve Carell, NBC announced Wednesday.
Ferrell will play a branch manager who arrives from the home office and proves to be just as inappropriate as Michael Scott (Carell).
"We found Steve Carell when he was nothing but a movie star and we turned him into a television star," joked executive producer Paul Lieberstein. "We are proud to continue The Office's tradition of discovering famous talent, and we hope that once America gets a good look at Will, they'll see what we see: tremendous raw sexuality."
According to Deadline New York, Ferrell lobbied for the guest role as a tribute to Carell, who is leaving the show this year after seven seasons. The two friends have a working history together, having co-starred in the comedy flick Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
Ferrell rose to fame on the network's Saturday Night Live.
