A lot has changed over the past four years. Marriage is now a right for all regardless of sexual orientation, more people die from selfie stick related causes than shark attacks, and we are all living in a world where a photograph of a famous woman’s bare posterior once temporarily broke the Internet as we know it. But throughout all that time, one thing has remained an absolute constant: Kylie Jenner has been unable to free herself from the shackles of her first Cartier Love bracelet.

They say the only constant in life is change, but if you’re Kylie Jenner, there’s one more constant, and it’s locked permanently around your wrist for all time. It’s a well-documented fact, that the reality star loves a Cartier bracelet, or 20. Last year, she famously showed off a stack of them going all the way up her forearm, leaving the Internet aghast at her perceived wastefulness. But honestly, which is really more horrifying, a famous teenager with a cool $40K to spend on wrist accessories, or being trapped inside of said accessory for almost half a decade?

According to the Lip Kit queen’s Snapchat, Kylie went through quite an ordeal yesterday at Cartier trying to liberate her wrists from the weight of this solid gold tyranny, but it appears not even the store’s security guard was able to undo those deceptively evil, tiny locks. The 18-year-old failed to capture the final results of her all-day jewelry saga on Snapchat, which given her proclivity to film her every waking moment, bodes poorly for the outcome of this drama. Will Kylie ever be set free from the gilded cage of her own making? Guess we’ll all just have to keep tuning in to her Snapchat to find out.
