HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kristen Stewart is preparing to bite into another juicy role.
The 18-year-old actress, who currently stars as Bella in the vampire drama, "Twilight," has signed on to portray Joan Jett in "The Runaways," a new biopic movie that tells the story of the 1970s all-girls band in which the female rocker got her start, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Runaways are credited as being the first successful all-female rock band. Fellow members included guitarist Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox. The group got their start in 1975, starting off as a novelty act of girls dressed in leather, but their music soon proved to be influential. They broke up about four years later, having first made their mark with songs like "Cherry Bomb."
Jett's career would blossom in the following decade when she formed the Blackhearts, registering such chart-toppers as "I Love Rock N' Roll" and "I Hate Myself for Loving You."
The 50-year-old Jett continues to record and tour to this day.
According to the Reporter, shooting on "Runaways" is set to begin in 2009 and will work around Stewart's obligations to the two "Twilight" sequels. The first sequel, "New Moon," is scheduled to begin shooting early next year.
