NEW YORK — Madonna issued a statement Sunday, denying that she and her husband Guy Ritchie are headed for a divorce, or that she's involved with baseball slugger Alex Rodriguez.
"My husband and I are not planning on getting a divorce," the 49-year-old singer told People magazine. "I know Alex Rodriguez through Guy Oseary, who manages both of us. I brought my kids to a Yankee game. I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez. I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage or what spiritual path he may choose to study."
The pop star's statement follows a similar announcement last week from her rep, Liz Rosenberg.
On Monday, Cynthia Rodriguez filed for divorce from the Yankees star, alleging infidelity in her court papers.
The Times of London recently reported that Madonna had engaged in discussions with high-powered British attorney Fiona Shackleton, who represented Beatles legend Paul McCartney in his well-publicized divorce battle with Heather Mills.
Soon thereafter, Us Weekly magazine reported that Alex Rodriguez has made several visits to Madonna's Central Park West apartment, including one encounter shortly after his wife gave birth to their second daughter. The 32-year-old slugger would reportedly leave "as late as midnight," according to the magazine's source.
Madonna and Ritchie were married on Dec. 22, 2000 in Scotland. They have two children together, 7-year-old Rocco Ritchie, and 21-month-old David Banda, 21 whom they adopted in Malawi in 2006.
