We interrupt this regularly scheduled programming of women’s style to bring you a mega men’s moment with Mr. Ansel Elgort. The star of The Divergent Series: Allegiant made quite the fashion statement last night at the New York premiere of the YA novel-turned-massive movie franchise wearing a black jacket with a white collar that looked like he wrapped a towel around his neck.
But towel it was not!

The collar was actually buttoned on to the jacket, and matched a white pocket square that popped out of his front pocket. Elgort—or shall we say Caleb?—paired the bold topper with dark navy pinstripe pants, a maroon tie, and an eye-catching watch. Dare we say he was the snazziest dressed male cast member at the event, as co-stars Theo James and Miles Teller picked more traditional suits (in BOSS Made to Measure and Dior Homme, respectively).

Before he debuted the design on the red carpet, Elgort gave fans a sneak peek at the look on his Snapchat, where he shared his primping routine alongside girlfriend Violetta Komyshan. “We’re getting ready for the Allegiant premiere doing some hair and makeup because that’s what you have to do when you’re in movies I guess and go to premieres and stuff,” he said.

But he’s no stranger to crazy looks: Let’s just take a minute to remember his colonial-inspired look at the 2014 American Music Awards and he’s worn suits in toffee brown, jackets paired with shorts, and more. We’ve come to expect the unexpected from him.

That said, Monday he could really get away with anything. It was his 22nd birthday! And for being a birthday boy, he gets a free pass to do and wear whatever he wants—right?
