Ezekiel Elliott may have just been selected fourth overall in the 2016 N.F.L. Draft to Dallas Cowboys, but what’s even more impressive? His inimitable fashion sense. On the red carpet he wore a crop top suit (yes, you read that right) and modeled it so well, he’s now in the running to kick Kendall Jenner off her midriff-baring reign.

On the red carpet, the Ohio State running back wore a pastel blue and white ensemble featuring a blue tux jacket with white lapels layered over a gingham cropped button-down, plus crisp white trousers, a matching bow tie and tasseled loafers.

But as it turns out, the abs-baring fashion choice may have been more to prove a political statement than a style one. According to NFL Networks’s Ian Rapoport, Elliot was standing up to the NCAA’s ban on crop-top style jerseys during the 2015 season.

He’s also known for his abs-baring style on the field, and has been very vocal in standing up for the half-shirt, frequently using the hashtags, #LongLiveTheCropTop and #SaveTheCropTop, even tweeting the hashtag with a photo from Thursday’s red carpet.
