SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Basketball great Charles Barkley was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence, The Associated Press reports.
The former NBA star was stopped by authorities after running a stop sign around 1:30 a.m. in Scottsdale, Ariz., AP says.
Barkley, 45, was issued a citation for driving while impaired and released pending the results of a blood test, Gilbert police Lt. Eric Shuhandler told AP.
"There was nothing unusual about how he was taken into custody," said Shuhandler. "He was treated exactly like we treat anybody else."
Barkley played 16 seasons in the NBA and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. He currently works as a NBA analyst for TNT.
