Julia Roberts Biography

Julia Roberts

Name: Julia Roberts
Profession: Actress, Producer
Birth Date: October 28, 1967
Height: 5' 9"

Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta, Ga.  Her parents (Walter and Betty) divorced when she was four.  Her older brother, Eric, remained with their father in Atlanta, while Julia and her sister, Lisa, moved with their mother to Smyrna.  She also has a half sister, Nancy, from her mother's second marriage.

Roberts graduated from Campbell High School in 1985.  Shortly after her graduation, she moved to New York to pursue a career in acting and modeling. She made her big-screen debut as a hipster band member in the 1998 rock-musical "Satisfaction." However, it wasn't until she appeared in "Mystic Pizza" later that same year that she achieved notoriety.

In 1989, Roberts appeared in "Steel Magnolias" with Sally Field and Dolly Parton.  She received her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress and won a Golden Globe for her performance.

The following year, Roberts would skyrocket to fame when she appeared in "Pretty Woman,"  starring opposite Richard Gere.  Her performance as a warm-hearted call girl earned the rising young star a second Oscar nod, this time for Best Actress.

Now an A-list star, Roberts would star in such films during the 1990s as "Flatliners," "Sleeping with the Enemy," "The Pelican Brief," "Dean Man Walking," "Everyone Says I Love You," "My Best Friend's Wedding," "Conspiracy Theory," "Notting Hill" and "Runaway Bride."

In 2000, Roberts would win her first Academy Award, scoring a Best Actress Oscar for her performance in "Erin Brockovich."

Three years later, Roberts became the first actress to break into the $20 million per film club as the highest paid actress at that time.

During the course of her distinguished career, Roberts has been romantically linked to Liam Neeson, Dylan McDermott (briefly engaged), Kiefer Sutherland (engaged), Jason Patric, Lyle Lovett (married 1993-95), Mathew Perry and Benjamin Bratt.

In 2002, Roberts married Danny Moder, a cameraman that she first met two years earlier while filming "The Mexican."  They have three children, daughter Hazel Patricia and son Phinnaeus Walter, who are fraternal twins, and son Henry.
