NEW YORK — Baseball star Alex Rodriguez reportedly tested positive for two anabolic steroids in 2003, Sports Illustrated claimed on its Web site Saturday.
Sources told the publication that the Yankees slugger was on a list of 104 players who tested positive that year, when Major League Baseball conducted survey tests to see if there was a need to impose mandatory random drug testing.
Rodriguez reportedly tested positive for testosterone and the anabolic steroid Primobolan. He was a member of the Texas Rangers at the time, and according to ESPN, Rodriguez was aware of the positive test.
In 2003, Rodriquez hit an AL-leading 43 home runs en route to winning the MVP award.
When asked about the report on Thursday by SI, A-Rod declined comment.
"You'll have to talk to the union," he said.
The publication then asked about an explanation for the positive test result.
"I'm not saying anything," replied Rodriguez.
