MONTREAL — Natasha Richardson was walking around fine for an hour after a skiing accident that eventually led to her being rushed to a hospital Monday with a head injury, a spokesperson for the ski resort has revealed.
Richardson was taking a private ski lesson at the Mont Tremblant resort when she fell on a beginners trail. At first, the 45-year-old British actress appeared to be fine after the fall.
"She did not show any visible sign of injury but the ski patrol followed strict procedures and brought her back to the bottom of the slope and insisted she should see a doctor," the resort said in a statement to The Associated Press.
Ski patrollers accompanied Richardson to her hotel, where she began feeling ill about an hour after the accident.
"She had a headache, so we sent her to the hospital," Mont Tremblant spokeswoman Catherine Lacasse told AP. "There were no signs of impact and no blood, nothing."
Richardson was initially transported by ambulance to the Centre Hospitalier Laurentien in Ste-Agathe. She was later transferred to Sacré Coeur Hospital in Montreal.
According to IrishCentral.com, which first reported the accident, Richardson is currently in critical condition.
Richardson's husband, actor Liam Neeson, 56, was in Toronto filming the movie "Chloe" when news of the accident reached him. A rep for the film told CTV that he immediately rushed to his wife's side.
"Liam Neeson left the Toronto set immediately to fly to Montreal upon news of his wife's accident," said the rep in a statement. "We do not have any details at this time but we hope for the best and our thoughts and prayers are with Natasha and Liam and their family."
Richardson and Neeson married in 1994 and have two sons, Micheal, 13, and Daniel, 12.
Richardson, who won a Tony award in 1998 for her performance in the musical "Cabaret," is the daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave and late producer Tony Richardson.
