Francis Ford Coppola and Eleanor Coppola Pictures: Francis Ford Coppola and wife Eleanor Coppola attend the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' 2nd Annual Governors Awards held at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center on November 13, 2010 in Los Angeles, California.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to producer-director Francis Ford Coppola and Honorary Awards to historian and preservationist Kevin Brownlow, director Jean-Luc Godard and actor Eli Wallach. The Thalberg Award, a bust of the motion picture executive, is given to "a creative producer whose body of work reflects a consistently high quality of motion picture production." The Honorary Award, an Oscar statuette, is given to an individual for "extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy."
"Each of these honorees has touched movie audiences worldwide and influenced the motion picture industry through their work," said Academy President Tom Sherak.
