The Genesis Awards were launched in 1986 by the late animal advocate and actress Gretchen Wyler. The annual ceremony recognizes members of the film, television, print media, music, and the arts communities for producing outstanding works that raise public understanding of animal issues. Past winners have included movies such as "Chicken Run" and "Babe," such television shows as "Dharma & Greg" and "Providence," and such commentators as Jim Rome and Bill Maher. The event annually attracts a broad range of celebrities from the film, TV, and recording industry.
