HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — For the second time this month, Britney Spears has been forcibly taken away from her home by police and rushed to a hospital. According to reports, she hasn’t slept since Saturday.
In a scene eerily reminiscent of the Jan. 3 standoff with authorities, the troubled pop star was transported around 1 a.m. this morning by ambulance from her gated Beverly Hills community known as the Summit. Spears was admitted to UCLA’s Medical Center for treatment and evaluation during a 72-hour emergency hold, known as a 5150.
“She went willingly. It was like something in her heart was telling her she should go. She knew something was wrong,” Britney’s friend and manager Sam Lutfi tells People.
Lutfi was inside Spears’ gated mansion when police arrived, along with the singer’s mom, Lynne, who just arrived on Sunday to repair a longtime rift with her daughter. Britney’s close friend, Alli Sims, was also at the mansion at the time.
The “Gimme More” singer’s father, Jamie, did not go to his daughter’s home. Instead, he drove directly to the hospital, where he joined the group, which included Britney’s paparazzi boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib, around 2 a.m.
“She was driving around her neighborhood like a mad-woman,” a Spears family source tells People of the events that triggered this latest incident. “Britney has been prescribed medication which she refuses to take. This is just another sad, sad evening.”
Rumors immediately started to circulate after the early-morning chaos, with X17 reporting that the troubled pop star had attempted suicide. However, they soon amended that report when Lutfi contacted them to say that “Britney is fine.”
On Jan. 3, Spears was taken to L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after a custody standoff at her home involving her two children with ex-husband Kevin Federline, Jayden James and Sean Preston.
Spears was released less than 48 hours later.
