HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – The past twelve months were not the best in the career of Jessica Simpson.
Now, with the bright lights of her film career fading, the pop star is going back to where it all began for her and getting back into the studio.
The Texas-bred singer, who established herself in the entertainment world with pop music, is getting in touch with her roots to reignite her career.
Simpson, who became a major household name thanks to the reality TV show “Newlyweds,” has confirmed that she has started work on a country album.
The star told Billboard magazine, “I am a country girl. I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to. I always wanted to wait until the time was right.”
“I think there is a strength in female country artists,” Simpson added, citing Martina McBride, Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Reba McEntire as some of her inspirations.
The starlet, who is rebuilding her career after suffering from multiple failures at the box office, is also going to get more involved in her music.
She said, “Writing is a release for me. It’s a way for me to tell my story. That’s not to say I wouldn’t record a song that I didn’t write. It’s just that it has been a while since I have opened the book.”
Simpson’s last album, “A Public Affair,” spent just nine weeks on the Billboard 200 in 2006. Her most recent movie, “Blonde Ambition,” was recently released in a handful of theatres in her native Texas en route to DVD stores.
Simpson’s country album is slated for a 2008 release via Columbia Records.
