LOS ANGELES – An appeals court on Friday refused to reconsider music producer Phil Spector's appeal of his murder conviction, saying there was overwhelming evidence of his guilt.

The California 2nd District Court of Appeal panel acknowledged it did not consider an issue that defense lawyers now say was critical to his conviction.

The panel blamed the lawyers for failing to sufficiently brief the point and said they had no obligation to consider it.

A three-member panel of the state 2nd District Court of Appeal on Monday issued a thorough 81-page decision explaining why it rejected claims the judge in Spector's trial committed reversible error.

Trial Date Set for Phil Spector Wrongful Death Lawsuit

PASADENA, Calif. – A trial date has been set for a lawsuit that accuses music producer Phil Spector of wrongful death in the fatal shooting of actress Lana Clarkson his Los Angeles-area home.

A clerk says a Jan. 9 trial date was set Thursday in Pasadena Superior Court. Clarkson's family is suing Spector for unspecified damages.

Spector is serving 19 years to life for killing Clarkson in 2003 at his castle-like Alhambra home. He's appealing his 2009 conviction for second-degree murder.

Phil Spector Murder Case Set for Appeals Arguments

LOS ANGELES – While legendary music producer Phil Spector sits in prison, his lawyers are poised to urge an appellate court to throw out his second-degree murder conviction and grant a new trial on grounds of judicial error and prosecutorial misconduct.

Oral arguments were scheduled Tuesday before the California 2nd District Court of Appeal, which has received hundreds of pages of legal briefs from Spector's lawyers and the state attorney general's office over the past year.
