The Carousel of Hope gala, founded by Barbara Davis and her late husband Marvin, raises funds for the treatment of pediatric diabetes. Jay Leno served as master of ceremonies at this year's event, which featured performances by Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony and Gladys Knight. The star-studded gala also honored California first lady Maria Shriver and music mogul Quincy Jones for their humanitarian efforts.

The 1960s-set AMC advertising drama "Mad Men" and ABC's fresh new comedy "Modern Family" took home the top prizes at the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Fallon. "Mad Men" won best drama series for the third consecutive year, while the freshman sitcom "Modern Family" earned the best comedy series trophy. On the acting side, it was a night for fresh faces as seven of the eight major acting Emmys went to newcomers or first-time Emmy winners.

The science-fiction blockbuster "Avatar" won best drama at the Golden Globes and picked up top directing honors for James Cameron. Winning the dramatic-acting honors were Sandra Bullock for the football tale "The Blind Side" and Jeff Bridges for the country-music story "Crazy Heart."
Ricky Gervais served as the master of ceremonies, marking the first time the Golden Globes have had a host in 15 years.
