Brittany Murphy Dead at Age 32

LOS ANGELES — Actress Brittany Murphy has died from an apparent cardiac arrest. She was 32.

According to TMZ, Murphy was discovered unconscious Sunday in the shower of her Los Angeles home by her mother around 8 a.m.  Paramedics rushed to the scene after receiving a 911 call and attempted to revive her, however she was pronounced dead on arrival at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at 10:04 a.m.

Los Angeles police have since opened an investigation into Murphy’s death, with investigators on the scene at the star’s home in the West Hollywood hills.

“In this time of sadness, the family thanks you for your love and support,” Murphy’s rep said in a statement. “It is their wish that you respect their privacy.”

Murphy landed her first Hollywood job at age 14 when she appeared on the Fox television series Drexel’s Class. In 1995, she landed her first major movie role alongside Alicia Silverstone in Clueless. Other notable film roles would follow, including 1999’s Girl, Interrupted with Angelina Jolie, 2001’s Don’t Say a Word with Michael Douglas and 2002’s 8 Mile with Eminem.

In more recent time, the Atlanta-born star voiced the part of Luanne Platter in the Fox animated series, King of the Hill.

Murphy also found success on the music scene during her career, teaming up with DJ Paul Oakenfold in 2006 to release the hit single “Faster Kill Pussycat,” which reached No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot Dance Club Play chart.

In addition to her mother, Murphy is survived by her husband, director Simon Monjack, whom she married in 2007.
