SALT LAKE CITY — Gary Coleman is on life support at a Utah hospital after suffering a brain hemorrhage.

The 42-year-old star was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday after he suffered the hemorrhage at home, his family revealed Friday in a statement the Associated Press. They said Coleman was conscious and lucid until midday Thursday, when his condition worsened and doctors placed him on life support.

"At this critical moment, we can only ask for your thoughts and prayers for Gary to make a speedy and full recovery," his family said.

Coleman was initially taken to Mountain View Hospital in Payson. He was then transported to his current location, Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, for additional tests and treatment.

The former child star has had a string of legal and health woes over the years. In February, he suffered a seizure on the set of The Insider, one month after being hospitalized for a never disclosed reason. He also underwent heart surgery last fall and has endured at least two kidney transplants over the years.

In their statement, Coleman’s family admitted the actor has had "difficulties not only with health issues, but also with his personal and public life."

"At times it may not have been apparent, but he always had fond memories of being an entertainer and appreciates his fans for all their support over the years," his family said.

Coleman, who rose to fame as Arnold Jackson on TV’s Diff’rent Strokes, has been living in Utah since 2005. He married his wife, Shannon Price, in 2007.
